Just so Pieces

d'après Rudyard Kipling, "Just so Stories"

    Souvenez-vous, il n'y a pas si longtemps fut créée une pièce pour saxophone baryton solo et orchestre d'harmonie, "Le Papillon qui tapait du pied", d'après un des contes extrait de "Just so Stories" de Kipling ; eh bien, je réitère mon affection pour ces contes, en écrivant quatre pièces sous le titre "Just so Pieces", pour faire clin d'oeil à l'oeuvre littéraire originale...

          op.18a --> "The Crab that played with the sea" ("Le Crabe qui jouait avec la mer"), pour flûte (et flûte alto), clarinette (et clarinette basse), violon, violoncelle, piano, vibraphone.
          op.18b --> "How the Leopard got his spots" ("Comment le Léopard eut des taches"), pour harpe, célesta et vibraphone.
          op.18c --> "How the Whale got his throat" ("Comment la Baleine eut un gosier"), pour flûte (et flûte alto), clarinette (et clarinette basse), violon, alto, violoncelle, harpe, célesta (et piano) et vibraphone.
          op.18d --> "How the Camel got his hump" ("Comment le Chameau eut une bosse") pour flûte (et flûte alto), violon, alto et violoncelle.

          Je pense que si les quatre pièces sont jouées dans un même concert, il sera peut-être préférable de terminer avec l'op.18c.

          Some time ago, I composed a piece for solo baritone saxophone and wind band, called "Le Papillon qui tapait du pied" (The Butterfly that stamped), based on the book by Kipling, "Just so Stories"... My affection for these tales takes me to compose 4 pieces under the title "Just so Pieces", to wink the original title...

          op.18a --> "The Crab that played with the sea", for flute (and alto flute), clarinet (and bass clarinet), violin, cello, piano and vibraphone.
          op.18b --> "How the Leopard got his spots", for harp, celesta and vibraphone.
          op.18c --> "How the Whale got his throat", for flute (and alto flute), clarinet (and bass clarinet), violin, alto, cello, harp, celesta (and piano) and vibraphone.
          op.18d --> "How the Camel got his hump", for flute (and alto flute), violin, alto and cello.

          I think that it should be better to finish with op.18c, if the four pieces are played together...
